Bingen am Rhein, Germany, 1 September 2026: Broadcast Solutions, a leading systems integrator and provider of innovative solutions for the broadcast media industry, delivered transformational technology at a high-profile sporting event. Working together, systems from Studio Automated and Egripment was used at the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
Broadcast Solutions first demonstrated the power and flexibility in combining Studio Automated’s AI camera automation technology with Egripment’s broadcast-grade remote head systems at Sportsinnovation earlier in 2026. Now it has been proven under pressure, in coverage seen by millions of football fans.
The Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2026, between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München, was played at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on 22 August. For several years, the Bundesliga and its host broadcaster Sportcast have used this match at the start of each season to integrate or test the latest technological features in their live broadcast and showcase the results to a professional audience. This year was no exception and as part of the international feed the host broadcaster used a fully automated camera system powered by Studio Automated’s AI and Egripment’s HotHead 3 remote head. This marked a significant milestone for both companies and demonstrated how AI-powered camera operation is rapidly evolving from technology showcase to production-ready broadcast workflow.
Unlike conventional automated camera systems that rely primarily on ball or player tracking, Studio Automated develops AI-powered camera automation technology that understands the game and applies broadcast production principles to camera operation. The system analyses the entire scene, understands match context and automatically frames shots according to established broadcast production principles.
Running entirely on standard on-premises hardware, the Studio Automated platform requires no cloud connectivity nor calibration process and integrates seamlessly into existing production environments. It supports multiple football camera positions out of the box, including tactical camera workflows, while maintaining ultra-low latency and open integration capabilities.
For the Supercup production, the AI controlled an Egripment HotHead 3 equipped with a professional large-lens camera setup. The combination brings together the strengths of both companies: natural camera framing driven by AI and the precision, smoothness and reliability of one of the industry’s most respected robotic camera platforms.
“The deployment at the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup was an important milestone for automated sports production,” said Jens Fischer, Senior Business Development Manager at Broadcast Solutions Group. “What started as a technology showcase at Sportsinnovation has now delivered an international tactical feed for one of Germany’s most prestigious football events.
The collaboration is part of a broader technology partnership between the two companies. Studio Automated supports Egripment’s complete remote head portfolio, including the HotHead 3, 306, 301, 205 and MiniShot through native integration with Egripment’s DigiLite IP ecosystem. This enables broadcasters and production companies to deploy automated camera workflows across a wide variety of production scenarios, from compact remote productions to major international events.
Visitors to IBC2026 will be able to evaluate the technologies for themselves. Both Studio Automated and Egripment can be found on the Broadcast Solutions stand, 12.F20, demonstrating integrated workflows for premium sports productions.
